newsletter number 2!
as many of you. know, the world feels scary right now for a lot of people. something that I have been trying to focus on this week is a sense of ‘normal' which has mostly been doing stuff I did in high school. the main activity has been rewatching Buffy the Vampire Slayer with my partner Felix. if you are a fellow Scooby, I highly recommend the podcast Buffering the Vampire Slayer. they are rewatching and rerecording the episodes, this time with spoilers.
let’s get into the week then, shall we?
Tattoo
Kai got a beautiful addition to their hand and forearm this week. I love getting to do foliage and other decorative stuff
.
Phoenix and I knocked out some more of his chest piece, soon to expand onto his throat and traps, and I am loving the shit out of it. many of you remember that I got into biomech in October, so it has been a blast getting to actually get to do some.
I have a bunch of time open in February and March. I would love to get to work with you on your next project. Also, my schedule will be changing, so I’ll now be working Sundays! My new schedule will be Sunday-Wednesday 12-7ish and Saturdays 3-9.
new business cards are on the way and feature art for a future back piece I will be working on. stop by the shop to pick some up!
Dance
got to perform in my second burlesque show since transitioning this past weekend with Tainted Hearts Productions. Touch of Kink was such a blast! I got to perform a knife play piece, do a wax demo, and get myself a little chest tie of shibari. the people were wonderful to meet. there aren’t any other shows on my calendar, but if you know of something you think I would be perfect for, let me know!
my impulse classes are working on occupying space, letting their rage out, and telling a story through their movements in their next combos:
Hip Hop 1/2 : get busy by Sean Paul
Burlesque 1/2 : I disagree by Poppy
Burlesque 2/3 : Sweat by All-American Rejects
Broadway 1 (Sub) : Everything’s Alright from Jesus Christ Superstar
Broadway 2 (Sub) : Heaven on Their Minds from Jesus Christ Superstar
I just wrapped up subbing for Hip Hop 2 and 3/4 and those combos came out amazing. the character work and just pure joy on people’s faces were incredible to watch.
Writing
my lgbtq+ novel writer’s immersive is entering its last couple of weeks, and my last workshop is coming up! I am so sad to be saying goodbye soon to so many wonderful writers and their insanely wonderful projects. I will be shouting the fuck out of them as their stuff gets published.
rejection is so hard to face, and there have been a lot of rejection letters coming back lately. I am trying to use the skills i’m learning in different workshops to assess what is useful feedback and how to make my work better. the latest note is to do more showing and less telling. it might be time for a rewrite or to put the project away for a bit. if you have words of encouragement, I would love to hear them!
still stalling out on the dual genre novel. I don’t know why it is so hard for me to write the climax parts, but I am struggling to connect the dots in a way that feels both authentic and also interesting to read.
i’ve been generating some short story ideas and will probably start tackling those to help the words flow.
Kitties
Guinness really is just a guy. Still convinced that he’s actually a centuries old wizard trapped in this fantastic kitty body.
Alice has been dying for the sunshine and the porch but isn’t loving how deceptively cold it still is. spring won’t come fast enough for her.
Life
this week marks 4 years since my mom passed. my partner and I are moving to a new apartment across town soon, so I have been trying to reduce the amount of things I am taking. this meant that it was time to get rid of some mom stuff that was just sitting there. there are a lot of complicated feelings with the grief of that situation, but it does feel nice to be in a place where I can more easily let those things go.
I also had my last wisdom tooth removed, and oh boy am I excited that it is gone and the pain can hopefully stop.
starting back on the emdr train, and did you know that doing somatic trauma work could be exhausting? I did, and I still always get taken by surprise.
I did get my nails done this week by Niqie at Prim & Polish here in Fort Collins. I love them and am also having to learn how to do things all over again with nails. the biggest battle last week was putting on false eyelashes…and typing
albums that have captured all of my attention this week:
that’s all for this week!
if there are things you’d like to see more or less of in these posts, let me know! I am hoping to add some more content as this develops!
stay magical
